Condolence Ceremony & Travelling Song
To open the 2021 Hamilton Fringe Festival, Mohawk Elder and Knowledge Keeper Allan Loft and Onondaga Nation Fire Keeper Tom Reape conducted a Condolence Ceremony to honour the lives of the children who were victims of Canada's Residential Schools.
Allan wanted to ensure there were children present at the ceremony, and so he honoured us by inviting his daughter Daisy and Festival Director Christopher Stanton's daughter Emiliana to take part.
The Condolence Ceremony is followed by a traditional Travelling Song.
Hamilton Fringe gives deep thanks to Allan and Tom for sharing their knowledge with us––Niawen'kó:wa.
